Drummer and native Portlander Ben Scholz joins trumpeter/composer Scott Anderson to perform music from "Nia Quintet". A native of Portland, Ben Scholz currently lives in Los Angeles where he works as both a studio musician and record producer. Originally hailing from Chicago, Scott Anderson's music for Nia Quintet represents "a collaboration of five individuals searching for similar things in music, in hopes of obtaining a sense of unity and understanding between each other, and the audience". Together with saxophonist Joe Manis, pianist David Kim, and bassist Nick Morrison, the group blends together musicians of the highest caliber to present a showcase of melodic interaction and improvisation. Before moving to Portland in late 2021, Scott Anderson performed in Chicago for 22 years, playing with many of the city's finest musicians such as Howard Levy, Pat Mallinger, Roger Ingram, Dana Hall, Scott Burns, Marquis Hill, and Matt Ullery. Scott is also the bandleader and composer for his original jazz project, the Nia Quintet. The band has released three critically acclaimed albums, End of Time, Earth Sign and Nia Quintet, Music by Scott Anderson. The albums have received rave reviews from publications such as Jazz Times, Cadence Magazine, Chicago Jazz Magazine, and have charted on national radio programs across North America. He has played festivals around the country and abroad, such as the Chicago Jazz Festival, Pittsburgh Mellon Jazz Festival, Elkhart Jazz Festival (2013 and 2022) and the Blues Passions Festival in Cognac, France. Over the course of his career, Scott has had opportunities to perform with jazz luminaries such as Akira Tana, Rufus Reid, Tim Hagans, Fred Hersch, Walt Weiskopf, Freddie Redd, Jack McDuff, Don Braden, and Roger Humphries. Scott is very excited to make his debut at The 1905 and kick off his performing career in the Pacific Northwest.
